BEHEMOTH recently finished recording its ninth full-length studio album, “Evangelion”, due out this summer via Metal Blade (USA) and Nuclear Blast (Europe). Mainman Adam “Nergal” Darski will flew to the U.K. on May 12 to join producer Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS), who is currently mixing the record at Miloco Studios in London.

Regarding the album title, Nergal said, “I’ve had this title in my head for almost a year now and it grew on me. It sounds nothing but powerful and epic which perfectly mirrors the essence of the new album. ‘Evangelion’ comes from a Greek word [meaning] ‘spreading the word of God’ or ‘spreading the good news’… Oh, well, you already know that we love to play with the meanings and symbolism. We’re here to show you our interpretation of what ‘Evangelion’ really is.”

Nergal previously stated about the new material, “I must confess that I’m way more excited about this record than I was for [2007's] ‘The Apostasy’. It’s probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno‘s injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system… I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective, it’s a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on… When we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It’s definitely 100% BEHEMOTH. I would risk saying that we do have our own style but it’s still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there’s a lot of diversity. There’s even a very slow, massive song that’s probably the most epic tracks in BEHEMOTH‘s history. Everything sounds more serious and…dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There’s probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too.”

BEHEMOTH has been confirmed for the second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, set to take place this summer. The band will perform on the Hot Topic stage alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY and WHITECHAPEL on over 25 dates.

Grief and disbelief as Chelsea bow out

by Trevor Haylett from London

Thursday 7 May 2009

Nothing will ever match Moscow 2008 for sheer disappointment for Chelsea FC’s players but Andrés Iniesta’s added-time equaliser for FC Barcelona, which consigned them to another defeat in a UEFA Champions League semi-final, runs it pretty close.

Bitter end
Twelve months after they lost the final to Manchester United FC in an agonising penalty shoot-out, Chelsea’s hopes of making amends by winning this season’s competition came to a bitter end just when it looked as if Michael Essien’s stunning ninth-minute volley would carry the day against Barcelona. “We have been knocked out of a semi-final and we are obviously going to be down, especially considering the circumstances in which it happened,” said Frank Lampard.

Still believing
“We were disappointed we could not take our other chances and in the end we have been kicked in the teeth,” he added. “It’s a big disappointment but we have to be big and stand up to be counted. We have to be professional and we have to believe we can still get to another Champions League final and win it. There would be no point carrying on otherwise.”

No luck
After their fourth semi-final defeat in this competition in six seasons, Michael Ballack believes the fates have turned against Chelsea. “Last year was a big, big disappointment when it came down to one penalty and now we have been beaten by a goal in the 93rd or 94th minute,” he said. “It is just unbelievable. Normally you can’t say that the wrong team has gone through to the final but we had the better chances and that’s why we deserved to have won. We know Barcelona are a great team and they can play great football but we were the better team.”

Prof. Hawking turns 67 today; here he is, opening his presents.  In the picture he is with a USB Missile Launcher, a popular office toy, which allows him to fire foam missiles across the room.

He will “really” celebrate his birthday this Saturday, with a big dinner at this house in Cambridge.
